The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering of Concordia University, in collaboration with the Concordia Institute of Aerospace Design and Innovation (CIADI), is pleased to host the 2026 Canadian Section of the Combustion Institute (CI/CS) Spring Technical Meeting in Montreal, Quebec, from May 11-14, 2026.

Authors are invited to submit an abstract (400 words up to 1-page, PDF format) electronically on all fundamental aspects and technology of combustion. Guidelines and templates, as well as additional submission details are available on the meeting website. The submission deadline is March 2, 2026. Those whose abstracts are accepted will be asked to submit a 4-6 page conference paper by April 20, 2026.

The 2026 Spring Technical Meeting of the Central States Section of The Combustion Institute will be held in person, 17 through 19 May 2026 in West Lafayette, Indiana. The meeting is hosted by Purdue University. This is the continuation of a series of technical meetings that have been held, in person or virtually, since 1966. 

The event will consist of an opening reception, plenary seminars, technical talks, a combustion art competition, an undergraduate research competition, and a banquet event. There will also be tours to Purdue Zucrow Labs in the afternoon on May 19th, 2026.

The Joint Meeting of the Italian and Spanish Sections of The Combustion Institute will take place in Piano di Sorrento, Italy, from May 26 to 29, 2026, at the stunning Villa Fondi. Designed to encourage collaboration and lively scientific exchange, the meeting will feature a welcoming and informal atmosphere that brings together scientists and technologists engaged in combustion research.

The technical program will cover both fundamental and applied aspects of combustion, as well as related areas including pyrolysis, gasification, fuel processing, and fuel upgrading. A special emphasis will be placed on net-zero-emission systems for energy and transportation. Ph.D. students and early-career researchers are particularly encouraged to participate.

the 8th International Flame Chemistry Workshop (FCWS) will take place on 25–26 July 2026, as a satellite event of the 41st International Symposium on Combustion, in Kyoto, Japan, continuing the FCWS tradition of providing a focused forum for in-depth discussion within the combustion chemistry community.
The workshop will be held jointly with other satellite workshops at Shinmachi-Campus of Doshisha University which is located 5 metro stops away from the Symposium venue.

The objective of this workshop is to bring together leading experts and early career researchers in combustion chemistry, flame science, chemical kinetics modeling, plasma chemistry, and diagnostics. Building on the discussions from the 7thFlame Chemistry Workshop held in Milan in July 2024, we aim to initiate a coordinated community effort to address key challenges identified therein. We would be delighted if you could contribute your expertise to this important initiative.

The workshop will focus on five interconnected topical areas:
  • Sustainable fuels combustion
  • Advanced diagnostics for combustion measurements
  • Plasma-assisted combustion
  • AI, automation, benchmarking, and knowledge transfer in theoretical kinetics
  • Progress and accuracy in chemical kinetics mechanism development
The program will include invited oral contributions covering current challenges and providing inputs for collective actions in these areas, as well as a poster session aligned with the workshop themes. Poster abstracts will be solicited from the community soon.
A joint session with the Rapid Compression Machine Workshop will be scheduled for the morning of the 25th, to discuss common challenges and share best practices of community driven efforts.
Discussions and oral contributions at the 8th FCWS will be guided by a recently published perspective paper (see attached file) summarizing the outcomes of the 7th FCWS (Milan, 2024).
More detailed information will be shared soon, including the agenda, registration costs and deadline, list of invited speakers, abstract templates and deadlines for poster presentations.
